Dr. Chanel Beebe
Dr. Chanel Beebe is a self-taught abstract multimedia artist based in her hometown of Detroit. Beyond her artistic pursuits, Chanel is an activist, writer, researcher, engineer and the Founder and CEO of a design firm focused on social and education equity called Beebe Arts LLC. Her creative journey serves as a channel for addressing social and educational equity while shining a spotlight on the experiences of marginalized and silenced populations.
Chanel's artistic toolbox includes oils, acrylics and digital media, all wielded skillfully to bring unspoken nuances to the forefront. Through the power of symbols and colors, she paints narratives that capture action, meaning and the essence of human experience.
Her commitment to creating dialogue extends beyond the canvas, as she takes her art and programs to audiences both local and global. Chanel's work has been showcased in numerous galleries and exhibitions across the Midwest, marking her as a notable force in the contemporary art scene.
“Reclaiming Our Space” is an abstract interpretation of The Huxtable Living Room as an energetic homage to the metaphorical and tangible familial and communal spaces that African Americans have created. Though traumas, violence and isms often attempt to infiltrate our spaces, “Reclaiming Our Space” attempts to fortify our ability to heal by modeling what it means to take ownership of the spaces that have helped us grow.
