Secret Society of Twisted Storytellers

Hosted by Satori Shakoor, The Secret Society of Twisted Storytellers will create, curate and produce two original events featuring eight compelling storytellers who will tell true and personal stories on a pre-selected curatorial theme that will revolve around Black Art and History.

Maxie Jones: Maxie Jones discovered storytelling in 2014 and, since then, it has become one of his favorite pastimes. He has told over 120 stories in different cities and believes he has over 120 more to tell. Maxie feels that everyone has lots of stories to tell; we just have to find them worthy of telling. He says, "Give me a theme, I'll tell you a story." 

Jacob Walker: Jacob Walker joined DTE Energy in 2009 as a participant in their Advanced Degree Development program. He currently serves as a Manager for the Center of Excellence. Jacob has served his community in several ways, including the BING Institute as a member of new government initiative; Real Life 101, a mentoring program focused on inner city black males; and STEP, an internal program to DTE Energy focused on employment opportunities for underexposed youth. Currently, he serves as a mentor with the BING Youth Institute, a mentor program for young black males.

Kevin Lightsey: Kevin S. Lightsey loves to tell stories and is embarking on a journey to becoming a storyteller. He is a seasoned professional with 40 years of experience in automotive manufacturing. He has been happily married for 27 years and raised four children. During his journey he earned a bachelor’s degree from Wayne State University and an MBA from the University of Phoenix, plus is a proud graduate of Cass Technical High School. In his spare time, he enjoys playing tennis and chess, rebuilding cars, researching most things and photography. His core belief is everyone has a story to tell, and he is excited to use his creativity and passion for storytelling to connect with others and bring stories to life.

Dr. Portia Lockett: Dr. Portia Lockett is an award-winning inspirational speaker, chaplain and grief recovery specialist known for delivering messages that leave her audiences enthused. She delivers messages based on her own personal trials to triumphs as she faced life altering challenges. Lockett has been featured on CNN, BET and Speakers Magazine.
